Bringing down the wires - Eurostarstyle!
Thursday, 17th July, 2003

After reading a piece of rail-gen this morning regarding a problem at Stevenage I decided to investigate. After a lot of driving round the area, I finally found the problem location. Stevenage Station its self!

373310 Closer inspection on the station reveals that the Eurostar set 3310/3309 is the problem. The southern unit 3310 was sitting with some wires dangling over the side and the catenaries looking slightly "looser" than usual and also unusually hanging onto the track.
373310 The unit is sitting on the northbound fast line with the wires on the track about 10-20 feet south of the platform. I would GUESS/SURMISE judging by the position of the Eurostar that the unit had come to a stop and the pantograph had pushed up and snapped the wire. I would expect the bang this made caused a few frights on the platform!
373310 Obviously this shut off the power and brought the East Coast Main line to a standstill.

67015 was positioned in front of the Eurostar at 11:15 when the onsite orange jackets started assembling the Schnarfberg to the 67. 16 minutes later the coupler was assembled, well done to the orange jackets, they only go the manual out at the end to check it and they got it right first time! The 67 was then coupled up to the Eurostar and all sorts of tests were made.
